Week 14 results [ weekly (total)]

Weight: 4 (39.5)
TI: 1 (23.5)
Chest: 0.25 (6)
BF% (calc): 0.6% (11.4%)
Fat loss (calc): 1.7 (33.6)
Muscle gain (calc): -2.25 (-5.65)

Holy Crap! Massive losses this week. My experiment this week was elimination/reduction of beans. I had no beans Monday and Tuesday. Found I was getting irratable and had low energy. Went with small bean content in lunches (still none in breakfast and dinner) on Wed/Thurs, then no beans Friday.

Still losing muscle mass according to the calculation. May be true because I still haven't started working out (I do the occasional chin up while playing with my daughter in the park). Still getting some numbness in my back. Will take another week off, then go to the doctor if problem persists.

I'm getting closer and closer to my goal weight. It keeps droping (because I'm losing some muscle), but I'm now 2.5 lbs away. Hoping to hit 15% BF in a month or so.

I'm almost below 200 lbs (~ 200.5 lbs)!

Had another cheat week where I allowed snacking, but stayed with SCD meals. Kept bean intake to zero, which I think increased my desire to snack. Measurements were taken Friday morning because I was away from my scale for the holiday weekend.

A good week. No bean consumption again. I started eating some dark chocolate (Lindt 90% dark). Had about 50 g on Tues, Wed, Thurs, 100 g Friday. My weight had been down as low as 197, but jumped to 199 for Friday morning. I was a bit constapated, but the increased dark chocolate may have had some effect (but 50 g is only ~ 3 g sugar).

I'm doing lunges and push ups during the week. I get way more DOMS in my glutes doing this than I did with the kettlebells. And about 2-3 times a week when we go to the park with my daughter I try to do 6 chin ups (6 sets 1 rep). Can't do 2 reps in a set yet, but I'll keep pushing. I got about 1.5 on Saturday, but couldn't get my chin above my hands without kicking up. I'll try to keep this body weight style routine for a month or two and see what happens.

Muscle gain (calc): -0.6 (-7.1)

Again a good week at the scale and the tape. I'm happy with the results here. Stayed with the no bean protocol. Interestingly, I did have about 3 big cheats (never more than 1/day) but still ended up doing well.

I'm definately adding some things from the primal way of thinking. I stayed with the dark chocolate (getting more used to it), having between 20 and 40 g / day. My wife made some home made baked sweet patato fries and I had about 10 of those too (which I think is allowed in primal). I think I'll start reading some other books and keep experimenting.

Overall, I'm pretty happy with my progress. When I started, I thought that 190 lbs was a rediculous goal. Now I'm at 197.5, and I'm thinking that I should be able to get below that. As of right now, I weigh about the same as I did when I graduated high school...I never thought I'd be this light again (at least without marathon like training).

Week 21 results [bi-weekly (total)]

Weight: 3.5 (46)
TI: 2.25 (27.75)
Chest: 0 (6.25)
BF% (calc): 1.7% (13.8%)
Fat loss (calc): 3.9 (39.3)
Muscle gain (calc): 0.4 (-6.7)

Results are for a two week span. I was on vacation two weeks ago so I didin't have any data to report last weekend.

I basically killed it these last two weeks. I think I did better on vacation than back at work (not passing that DQ in the train station). Tried to do more exercise on vacation too (fun stuff like climbing, kayaking, etc.). I also had a bit of a 2 day stomach flu where I didn't eat much. One day was my last cheat day so I didn't go crazy (but still got some chocolate covered PB in me).

This week went well. I find that I'm moving toward a SCD/primal hybrid (although I did have beans for 3 meals this week). I will buy the primal blueprint and check out what it's really about. I even ended up intermittant fasting one day (ate at 3:PM, then at 6:AM). Had a massive headach at ~ 4 AM though. Don't think I'd do this again.

The big BF% number is due to the fact that I lost an entire inch off my waist in two weeks!

Off to binge.

Just wanted to drop by and say "Keep it up!". I just started on SCD and it really pushes me on to see people sticking to it and getting results! Thanks for the inspiration and motivation! :mrgreen:

I've was away for a bit and have been posting about my vacation weight and recovery here:

As of this week, I'm up about 5 lbs and 1% BF from my lowest weight. I'm looking at eating better as a permanant lifestyle change, so although it may take me 3 weeks to get back to my lowest weight I'm not really concerned.

I think I'd really like to get down into the 180s, but we'll see where my body reaches steady state.

Week 25 results [comparison from wk 21 (total)]

Weight: +3.5 (42.5)
TI: -0.5 (28.25)
Chest: -0.25 (6.5)
BF% (calc): -0.4% (14.2%)
Fat loss (calc): 0.4 (39.6)
Muscle gain (calc): +3.8 (-2.9)

So, I'm not quite at the same weight I was before vacation, but most of the gain is muscle and I'm actually down fat. Looking good and feeling good too.

I tracked this week day by day again in the same thread listed above.

Week 29 results [comparison from wk 21 (total)]

Weight: +0 (42.5)
TI: +1.25 (27)
Chest: 0 (6.5)
BF% (calc): +0.6% (13.6%)
Fat loss (calc): -1 (38.6)
Muscle gain (calc): -1 (-3.9)

Weight stayed the same. Calcs seem to show that I gained a lb of fat and lost a pound of muscle. This comes down to an increase of 0.25" on my waist. I tend to believe that I'm at some steady state and that the waist measurement is just fluctuation.

I'll try to continue doing this every month. The last month has been OK. Haven't been gung ho about losing weight, but have maintained pretty easily. Have on occasion had cheat weekends where the magnitude of cheating wasn't as high as "old" cheat days, but was spread out over 2 days. Have also been eating fruits (in season fruit is awesome) and have had the occasional indulgance during the week.

All in all, I'm content at this weight. I think I'd have some abs if I could get down another 10 lbs or so (I can see a hint on the sides and top), but it's not my main goal. Still, I may try to have a couple weeks of hard core SCD or Primal to see if I can get the weight loss started again. If I could maintain my current weight indefinately, I'd be OK with that.

Will try to keep updates every month or so.

Week 40

Down another 4 lbs since wk 29. Most weeks I'm staying the same or droping 0.5-1 lb. I'm mostly staying on point for meals, but ceat semi frequently.

I'm at 193.5 lbs now, and would like to get into the 180s. I'm not a big believer in BMI, but at 189 lbs, I'd be at a BMI of 24.9, which is "normal" (currently at 25.5). Not bad considering I started off at 240 lbs and a BMI of 31.7 (Obese). I'm going to try to get to 185 lbs for week 52. That would be 55 lbs in a year.

I've basically maintained a similar weight (+/- 3-4 lbs) for about 20 weeks with no great effort. This system works well for me and I plan on eating this way for the rest of my life. I just need to find some motivtion to get about a month of 100% compliance and I think I'd be in the 180s.
