Carrots? And any veggies similar to...

Postby crazypills » January 25th, 2011, 4:43 pm

Recently I had this Carrot Juice beverage and was surprised to see its sugar content

my question is, since Carrots have sugar in them, does that mean I should avoid eating them? Especially in juice form like this, despite the fact that it's 100% Carrot Juice?

I'm confused because when Tim suggested mixed veggies, I know they usually consist of carrots as well. This would go for pretty much any veggies that also contain sugars.

Is this a no no? Would anyone care to shed any light?

No you can't juice them - too much sugar.

I think I read a comment on Tim's blog somewhere that you should avoid them. High in sugar.

Carrots are high in sugar, but certainly not the worst thing you can eat. I'd say if you want a carrot or two have at it. If you're struggling to lose weight and re-evaluating your diet the carrots and whatever other gray area foods you're eating should be the first to go.

As a general rule of thumb, if you aren't sure, don't eat it.

If you juice them its just the juice, if you eat them you atleast get the fibre.

While they don't show up on the list of veggies...and they wouldn't be considered cruciferous, I would try to at least limit carrots, and definitely not drink the juice. However - Ferris does explicitly state in the book that if you really feel like you want a snack, he recommends carrots. Although, it reads like he's a little reluctant to suggest it...

As a low-carber myself carrots were always off limits. A little bit of the whole carrot is okay, if you find you are stalling then just delete them.
